The online workshop entitled "Sustainable Production of Biobased Products in the Bioeconomy Era" was held on 10 November 2021 and was organized by the Laboratory of Food Engineering and Processing of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition of the Agricultural University of Athens.
Innovative technologies on the development of bioeconomy products by exploitation of renewable raw materials using processes related to green chemistry, industrial biotechnology, sustainable development and production of biogenic products were presented in the seminar.
Researchers from International Universities and Institutes (University of Leeds, National Hellenic Research Foundation, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas, AIMPLAS Technological Institute of Plastics, University of Manchester, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy, University of Rome) presented innovative research focusing on the sustainable development of biorefineries and innovative biobased products from lignocellulosic biomass and agro-industrial residues.
Of particular interest was the participation of professionals from companies such as Symbeeosis SA, (Greece) and American Process International, (US), who presented innovative practices on regenerative cultivation, beekeeping and on the treatment of residual biomass.
Through the seminar, more than 200 researchers and scientists from Universities from Greece, Sweden, Colombia, Turkey and Sri Lanka were offered the opportunity to gain an understanding of the basic principles of the bio-economy process development and discover their applications in the field of agri-food.
